Moon’s Memory

they were huddled on street corners
on a summer afternoon
just waiting for a sudden gust of wind
and the world around was silent
‘cept for one ol’ yappin dog
beggin for someone to let him in

and the eagle
the eagle glides
down the mountainside
and I’m here waiting for you
the moon’s memory

an abandoned hotel building
in the center of the town
divides the huddled townsfolk into sides
downtown you got your hustlers
and uptown they’ve go no rules
and in between it’s just us waiting fools

still the eagle glides
down the mountainside
and i’m here waiting for you
the moon’s memory

the expectant mother’s nightmare
is the insurance salesman’s dream
‘cross a poisoned sea
the salmon spawns upstream

and the eagle glides
down the mountainside
and the choir sings
while the church bells ring

i’m the moon’s memory
